Ramblin' Ash & Ruby Gilbert

Following the success of their 2017 tour, folk troubadour Ramblin' Ash and americana songstress Ruby Gilbert are on the road again - joined by bassist Phillbilly Jenkins - heading from Brisbane, down the east coast of Australia and back again. Come along for a healthy dose of folk, americana, country and blues. x

You might find Ramblin’ Ash Constance pickin’ old country songs for grey nomads at a free camp in rural Victoria, or playing at a crowded blues bar in Brisbane city - wherever and whenever she turns up, there is always a story to be told and a tune to be sung.

With a voice like birdsong and the rollicking, rough and tumble of a true traveller she will break your heart, then charm your socks off and leave you longing for a life on the road.

Ruby’s upcoming release embraces a moody and gothic-tinged style of song-writing. Inspired by the grittiness of Johnny Cash, whilst channelling the timeless and stylised atmosphere of Lana Del Rey, her left-of-centre phrasing is both unexpected and speaks brutally honest truths. Raw and heart-breaking, her voice evokes an old-time feel while her lyrics are both strange and endearing.

Ruby draws inspiration from short-lived love affairs, imagined yearnings, betrayal. She speaks of the lonely and cynical side of heart break that no-one likes to speak of or ever thinks to write about. She captures and vocalises feelings and emotions that make her lyrics deeply relatable. Tales of hardship, woe and lost love. Murder ballads that she insists are fiction.

Her powerful performance style has seen her play festivals around Australia, including the Caloundra Music Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, the Gympie Music Muster, as well as being featured at Little Bigsound. She currently lives on the sleepy outskirts of Brisbane, Queensland.
